Post Box At Home

A Post Office Box (PO Box) is the most popular solution for general use. Choose from a range of PO Box sizes and lease durations to suit your needs. And it’s not just for letters – it works for parcels delivered by Australia Post and StarTrack too. A post box (British English; also written postbox; also known as pillar box), also known as a collection box, mailbox, letter box or drop box (American English) is a physical box into which members of the public can deposit outgoing mail intended for collection by the agents of a country's postal.

Box is an online cloud storage and collaboration tool that provides users with the ability to easily store, access, and share files and folders anywhere on any device.

IMPORTANT — Free, secure University of Utah Box accounts are only available only to current students, staff, and faculty members. Your UBox account will expire 30 days after you are no longer eligible. More information is available in the UIT Knowledge Base.

Box accounts are provisioned upon your first login. To access your Box account:

  1. Go to box.utah.edu
  2. Select the 'LOGIN' button near the top right side of the page
  3. Enter your uNID and CIS password on the login screen

Please review the university's Acceptable Use Policy/User Agreement (PDF) before you begin using Box.

FAQ

Active University of Utah staff, faculty, emeriti, students, and University of Utah Health staff are eligible to use Box. Affiliate accounts are not eligible.

Your university Box account will be set up when you first log in with your uNID and password at https://box.utah.edu.

Box allows you to easily collaborate and exchange information with other University of Utah and University of Utah Health users in a secure and encrypted environment. Other cloud providers such as Dropbox or Google Drive cannot provide this level of security.

Active University of Utah staff, faculty, emeriti, students, and University of Utah Health staff are allocated 1 TB of storage.

You will need to modify the account to use a non-University of Utah address. You can do this by following these directions:

  1. Log in to Box and select the 'Gear' icon in the top right corner.
  2. Select 'Account settings.'
  3. In the section 'Login information,' select 'Add more emails.'
  4. Enter the non-University of Utah or non-University Health email address and save changes.
  5. Follow the steps in the confirmation messages sent to the address you provided, which will validate that the email address is operational.
  6. Go back into 'Account settings' and hover over the address, selecting the option to make this address primary. Authenticate to save changes.
Depending on the need, you may be eligible for more than your allocated storage space. For main campus, contact the UIT Help Desk at 801-581-4000, option 1. For University of Utah Health users, contact the ITS Service Desk at 801-587-6000. If you're approaching the 1 TB storage limit and need more space, your account will be reviewed and eligibility determined.

As a user of the university’s Box service, you are responsible for all data and content that you upload to the Box service or otherwise create using the Box service (collectively, “Data”). In addition, you agree to abide by the following rules in connection with your access to and/or use of the Box service:

The Box service is primarily for university purposes and as such will follow the same deprovisioning rules as other systems when an individual is no longer affiliated with the university.
Yes, you can download content you have uploaded. For data that has been shared with you, the ability to download is dependent on the permission level granted to you. If the data you want to download is sensitive, please follow University of Utah or University of Utah Health guidelines for handling sensitive information. See the Box Security & Usage Matrix.
Yes. This process will also transfer the size of the content against the new owner's quota and free up storage space for you. See the article Box.com: Managing Collaborators for details.

Shared links allow you to grant read-only access to content for both internal users (i.e., box.utah.edu users) and external users. For more active collaboration, you can share files and folders with both internal and external users by adding them as collaborators to your folder(s) and set a variety of permission levels ranging from viewer to editor to co-owner. See the article Box.com: Understanding Collaborator Permission Levels on Box collaboration for more details.
  • Box Help includes videos, best practices, and help documentation. Go to https://support.box.com/ to connect. To get up and running quickly, view the tutorial '5 Skills to Get Started.'
  • If you need technical assistance such as logging in, uploading content, or collaborating with others, consult your local IT support or contact the UIT Help Desk at 801-581-4000, option 1, or the ITS Service Desk at 801- 587-6000.
  • Search University of Utah’s IT Knowledge Base for specific help documentation.
Box is approved for storing and exchanging sensitive data, such as HIPAA and FERPA content, subject to the guidelines for handling sensitive information. For more details, access the UIT Knowledge Base article: Storage of regulated information.
Your files and folders are encrypted during upload and download, and while on Box.com. Access to this content is controlled through authentication and permission controls as set by you. You can also set password protection on files and folders, and set expiration dates for content sharing.
Box.com backs up your data to protect against a system failure. Please note that there are some actions you can take with Box content that cannot be undone. You can use options such as versioning to protect the integrity of documents. Content you delete is also placed in the Trash. These items can be restored up to 30 days after the items were deleted. See the article Box.com: Trash for details.

Due to storage caches, this may happen. Box can manually fix this for you.

If this happens, please open a case with Box directly.

To submit a case to Box:

  • In your Box account, select Help from the drop-down menu under your name.
  • Select Submit a Case from the right-hand side under Need Help?
  • Follow the prompts to submit a case.
'Versioning' is a process that tracks changes to a document and records who made the modification. This enables a user to reverse to a previous version of the file without having to save multiple copies. Box provides versioning for files and will keep up to 100 versions, which are accessible through the Box web interface. See the article Box.com: Organizing and Tracking Content: Accessing Version History for details.
You can customize the types of email notifications you receive by modifying the email notification settings in your account. See the article Box.com: What Box Email Notifications Cannot Be Disabled? from Box for details.
Yes. See the Acceptable Use Policy (PDF) for additional information.
Yes. While the University of Utah does not allow sharing via unauthenticated links, you can share with people outside the university. They need to be added as collaborators to the folder you are sharing. They will be required to set up a free box account if they do not already have one. This provides user authentication, which meets FERPA and HIPAA security requirements.

You are able to collaborate with people outside the University of Utah. External users must have a personal Box account to be added as collaborators.

External collaborators can follow these steps to create an account:

  • Go to box.com
  • Select Sign Up
  • Sign up with your preferred email for collaborating

To add an external collaborator:

  • Go to a folder
  • Type in the email of the external collaborator
  • Set the permission, and select Send
Box Drive does not currently work on Mac devices with the M1 chip. Box has stated it will have a working version of Box Drive available in early 2021. Please visit this Box support article for updates.

Why a Virtual PO Box with PhysicalAddress.com?

Post Box At Home Delivery

PhysicalAddress.com is one of the few virtual PO Box services that manages and operates all address locations. When you sign up, you get the option to select a physical address and suite number for your virtual PO box. The location you choose is a PhysicalAddress.com location and is managed by PhysicalAddress.com associates. Many virtual PO box services use third-party mail centers as your physical address. These mail centers also manage your mail and are involved with supporting you as a customer, so you are dealing with two companies. If one of these companies goes out of business or loses their location lease, you lose your address. Other online virtual PO box companies rent a standard PO box from the post office and then offer you addresses off that PO box, e.g., 111 First Street, PO Box 54786 PMB 1134. Your mail is delivered to the post office and then forwarded to another location to be processed. Because we are one-company and do not outsource, it gives us the ability to provide our clients with a stable, efficient, reliable, and seamless experience.

What is a Virtual PO Box?

A Virtual PO Box provides customers with many of the benefits of a standard PO Box and a lot more. A Virtual PO Box allows customers to view and manage their postal mail online using a computer or smartphone. Virtual PO Box services scan postal mail and upload it to online servers so that customers can access their postal mail utilizing an Internet connection. Many of the online PO Box services allow customers to view, open, forward, shred, and archive postal mail using a computer or smartphone.

What is an Online PO Box?

An Online PO Box gives users the ability to view and manage their postal mail online using a computer or smartphone. The term online PO box and virtual PO box are often used synonymously.
